There’s Always a Reason to Celebrate

bn354080Nothing boosts morale like a celebration, and holidays such as Christmas or Halloween are great opportunities to lighten the mood and have a little fun at work. But, what about the other 363 days of the year? Here is a list of some lesser known, but real holidays and observances coming up this year that will help ensure there’s always a reason for you and your employees to take a break from the daily work routine and have a little fun.

June 1: Flip a Coin Day
The exact origins of this holiday are unclear, but the purpose couldn’t be simpler. Basically, the first day of June is set aside to make all decisions by the flip of a coin. No more vague and inconclusive answers to your problems. On Flip a Coin Day it’s only yes or no, this one or that one.

June 3: Repeat Day
Repeat Day is the official day of “do it again.” On June 3, feel free to say or do any of the things – no matter how crazy or mundane – that make you and the people around you laugh and feel better.

August 13: Bad Poetry Day
This is the day, when all you say, should come out as poetray. Forget those complex rhyme schemes and stop counting your syllables. August 13 is about celebrating the cringe inducing joy of really bad poetry.

September 19: International Talk Like a Pirate Day
It’s exactly what it sounds like. Started as an inside joke in 1995 between friends, this holiday gained popularity after humor columnist Dave Barry featured it in his widely-syndicated column. So, when September 19 comes around, don’t forget to start your day with an enthusiastic, “Aaarrr!”

December 21: Look on the Bright Side Day
The glass is always half full on December 21. No matter the obstacle, Look on the Bright Side Day is about keeping your chin up and turning lemons into lemonade. So, turn that frown upside down and spend this day basking in optimism.

There’s a different wacky holiday for every day of the year, which means you have plenty of opportunities to boost morale in your workplace. You don’t have to throw a big party or have any kind of formal recognition. Simply send out a memo at the beginning of the day announcing the holiday and then sit back and watch as your employees start repeating themselves, talking like pirates, or reciting their best bad poetry for a little bit of office fun.
