5 Things to Do This Month

PRD11RL_5THINGS_FThe first half of 2011 is gone, and now July marks the start of the second half of the year. From watching fireworks, relaxing on a beach, and cleaning up your desk, here are five things to remember to include on your July to-do list.

Be Patriotic
No matter which part of North America you live in, start off the month with a patriotic celebration. If you’re from the second largest country in the world, on July 1 commemorate the passing of the British North America Act in 1867, which marked the first step in Canadian independence. Or, if you’re in the U.S., observe the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, on Independence Day.

Get Organized
With 51% of business leaders losing up to nine hours a week due to clutter, July is the perfect point in your year to get re-organized. It doesn’t have to be hard or take a huge chunk of your time. Dedicate 15 minutes each day to organizing a specific area of your office, and you’ll rediscover the ease of a de-cluttered life before the 31st.

Plan Your Own Vacation
You’ve probably been juggling your team’s requests for vacation time the past few months, but in the midst of scheduling and planning don’t forget to fit your vacation on the calendar! Whether you’re able to go on a 7-day cruise or simply take a long weekend to stay at home, it will you do you good. Studies have shown that by going on vacation, men reduce their risk of death by 20% and women are less likely to be depressed, tense, or tired.

Hold Your Halftime Meeting
Last month we encouraged you to prepare for your “halftime” meeting, and now is the time to put your preparation to use and meet with your team. By reviewing what you did right and did wrong in the first two quarters and planning how you’ll change those “did wrongs” in the next two quarters, you’ll set yourself and your employees up to successfully complete your yearly goals.

Put a Smile on Your Team’s Faces
You don’t have to spend money or give up a lot of time in order to lift your employees or coworkers’ spirits. Make them smile by sending them an e-smile card. From wishing them a happy birthday to celebrating the next holiday, online cards are perfect for increasing morale in July.
