Question of the Month: What Is the Number One Key to Creating Strong Company Culture?

In an ideal work environment, every employee would be fully engaged 100% of the time and productivity and innovation would be through the roof. Unfortunately, that’s a lot easier said than done. However, those companies that place heavy emphasis on building a strong company culture typically get the closest to achieving that goal.

While there are many paths you can take toward building a stronger company culture, for our October question of the month, we want to know what is the number one key to success. Let us know your thoughts by voting in our poll.

I think the number one key to creating a strong company culture is trust sustained with confidence.

There are a combination of things including those you listed. Happy and challenged employees make a huge difference as well as motivation.Great leaders, honesty, true caring about what you do and why, trust, appreciation, etc, etc, etc. Trying to choose one thing creates a limiting atmosphere.

I agree that there is no one silver bullet, but I think there is value in the question. I agree with the consensus of the poll at this point in that “An environment that encourages open communication – top to bottom” is of most importance. Having this environment can only happen when there are great leaders, honesty, caring and trust. Without these characteristics, no amount of lecturing or written policies will ever support long term open communication top to bottom. In the absence of honest, caring and trust, all levels will tend to clamp down and not step out on a limb with open communication of new ideas, quality or regulatory concerns.
