5 Things to Do This Month: March 2013

March is a time when we shake off the rust from winter and burst forward into more temperate weather. On the 20th of this month, we enter into spring with hopeful hearts and optimistic beginnings. So while you open your windows and let fresh air fill the hallways, here are things to do to help kick off the new season!

Go Green or Go Home
Every year on March 17, people from all ethnic backgrounds put on green and are a little bit Irish for the day. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated across the world and is a great time to build camaraderie in your office. This year it falls on a Sunday, but you could celebrate it in your office the Friday before with green dyed foods and drinks. It’s nice during the hustle and bustle of work to take a few minutes off to sit around, enjoy refreshments together, and take a mental break from the deadlines to enjoy a little culture.

National Nutrition Month
Health and wellness is a huge topic right now. With healthcare in the news and businesses putting more focus on employee health, March is a great month to promote healthy living in the office. And better yet, it’s actually National Nutrition Month, so you have an excuse! Try implementing a program in your office like the Biggest Loser or develop a point system for whoever eats the healthiest each week. To supplement the satisfaction of being healthy, offer prizes like gift cards to healthy restaurants. Also, encourage employees to get up from their desks periodically to stretch and drink more water. A healthy office is a happy office.

Women Who Led the Way
March is National Woman’s History Month and a better time than ever to celebrate some of history’s most innovative and inspiring leaders. People like Joan of Arc, Anne Frank, Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, and Mother Teresa have all shown that strength and resolve will usher in a new age of enlightenment. Take time this month to remember a few of these amazing women by reading their books and implementing their strategies in the workforce. From CEOs to vice presidents to team leaders, women play a vital role in the success and growth of your business.

National Write a Letter of Appreciation Week: March 1-7
We all have busy lives. Sometimes they are unavoidable and other times we superimpose busyness on ourselves. With the go-go life that most of us live, we’ve lost a time-honored art along the way – writing letters. There is nothing more meaningful than taking five to ten minutes out of your day and give a hand-written note to a fellow person about how much you appreciate them. In a world driven by emails and 140-character blurbs, it’s important to slow down and encourage one another. And just think, taking on this form of admiration could do wonders for your engagement issues!

National Cleaning Week: March 24-30
One of the most associated words with is spring is “cleaning.” And not to over use the phrase, but it’s time for spring cleaning in your office! The week of March 24 is National Cleaning Week and is a perfect time to encourage your office to clean up their workspace to be more efficient. It’s also a great time to organize some of the old files that have been spilling out of your cabinets.
