The Results Are In: What’s Your Number One Source to Find Job Candidates?

In our June question of the month, we wanted to know your best source for finding job candidates for open positions in your company. With nearly 250 respondents, the results show the number one source is “Employee referrals” with a little more than 24% of the votes. “Outsourcing to an HR services or staffing firm” was second with 22.5%, followed by “Searching for candidates on job boards” (18%); “Networking through professional organizations and events” (8.5%); and “Utilizing social media sites like Facebook or LinkedIn” (7%).

Interestingly, nearly 20% of respondents submitted “Other” sources as their number one source to find job candidates, which included: Craigslist, newspaper ads, job fairs, and unemployment offices, to name a few.

Driving company culture.
A strong company culture is a vital part of maintaining a successful, productive workforce. And hiring based on employee referrals is one way to find top talent that fits your unique cultural environment. Who knows your business’ culture better than the people who work in it each day? Truly engaged employees feel they have a vested interest in the success of their companies, and wouldn’t recommend a candidate that didn’t meet the highest of standards and make the team stronger.

Employee referral programs not only show you trust your workers to recommend candidates who will fit the culture, but also that your employees think highly enough of the company to recommend an open position to their friends and other business networks.

Do you encourage employee referrals in your company? Do you provide any incentives to employees who refer candidates? Let us know in the comments section below.
