5 Things to Do This Month: October 2013

Fall is here and with it comes plenty of opportunities to build employee morale, boost workplace productivity, and most importantly – have a little fun. Check out these five things to do in the month of October.

National Popcorn Popping Month
Pick a day to take a break from the grind of the work week and reward your office with a special treat. October was officially recognized as Popcorn Popping Month in 1999 because a majority of popcorn is harvested in the fall. Everyone loves popcorn and a little time to relax and socialize with co-workers can do wonders for employee morale.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
Research has shown workplaces that allow their employees to bring their dogs to work often experience a boost in productivity. And, pets in general can be a major stress reliever for their owners. Encourage your employees to think about adding a new member to their families and try opening up the office to their new four-legged friends. You might be surprised by the results!

Customer Service Week (Oct. 7-11)
This week, recognize the importance of outstanding customer service and pay special recognition to those who go out of their way each day to ensure a positive experience for your business’ clients and customers. Show the people on your front lines how much you appreciate their service and thank them for helping to put the company’s best face forward.

Boss’s Day (Oct. 16)
You probably let your employees know how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication on a daily basis, but how often do you thank your boss for their guidance and support? Wednesday, Oct. 16 is a chance for workers at all levels to celebrate great leadership and thank those who have helped lead them along their career path.

Halloween (Oct. 31)
You may be well past your trick-or-treating prime, but that doesn’t mean Halloween can’t still be fun. From costume and pumpkin-carving contests to candy and treats, there is a variety of ways you can celebrate the spookiest of holidays in your office, while at the same time building camaraderie and teamwork among your workers.
