5 Things to Do This Month: February 2014

Believe it or not, we’re already a full month in to the new year. How is your 2014 shaping up? Are you sticking to your resolutions? If not, don’t worry. You still have plenty of time to reach, and exceed your goals. In the meantime, check out these five things to do in the month of February.

International Change Your Password Day (Feb. 1)

The recent Target debacle hit a little too close to home for many people and has reminded us that you can never be too safe with your private information. And that includes your passwords. So, take some time this month to safeguard your accounts by changing your passwords.

Winter Olympics (Feb. 7 – 23)

The 2014 Winter Olympics officially kick off on Feb. 7 in Sochi, Russia. This could be a great time to organize a little friendly workplace competition to help boost employee morale. From broom hockey to the office chair luge, let the games begin and encourage your team to go for the gold!

American Heart Month

February is recognized as American Heart Month in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 715,000 Americans have a heart attack every year. In fact, one in every four deaths can be attributed to heart disease. Raise awareness for American Heart Month by encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle in your workplace and provide awareness training or consider offering special incentives for your employees to get in shape. In fact, it’s likely many of them have already set resolutions to live healthier lives this year!

Family Day in Canada (Feb. 10 in BC; Feb. 17 in AB, ON, and SK)

Family Day is a Canadian statutory holiday that celebrates the role families play in our lives and communities. Take some time to recognize the importance of family life in the workplace and encourage your employees to spend some time with their loved ones. A little family time can go a long way toward recharging the batteries and relieving stress.

Check Your Resolutions

Now that we’re a full month into the new year, it’s time to check in on your resolutions and make sure you’re still on track for success in 2014. If you find that you’ve started to lose focus on the resolutions you set at the beginning of the year, take some time to reevaluate your goals and determine how best to reach them. Sometimes just a simple change in routine is all it takes to shake up the monotony and get back on track.
