The Results Are In: Cash Bonuses #1 Way to Show Employee Appreciation this Holiday Season

RL11-13-15In a recent Refresh Leadership poll, we asked our readers how they plan to show their employees that all their hard work is appreciated this holiday season. And with 34% of the votes, cash bonuses was the top choice. The rest of the results were as follows:

  • A combination of bonuses, extra days off, tangible gifts, etc. – 23%
  • Gift cards – 13%
  • Tangible gift items (items other than cash/gift cards) – 4%
  • Extra days off – 3%

And, 23% of respondents said they do not plan to give any type of holiday bonus at all.

Another 7% chose the “Other” option and submitted their own ideas on how they plan to show employee appreciation to their workers this holiday season, including:

  • Holiday parties
  • A ham or turkey
  • Buying lunch for the office
  • Offsite teambuilding events

Movin’ On Up, Express Employment Professionals blog for job seekers and people new to the workforce asked their audience how they would prefer their employers show appreciation this holiday season. And, with 30% and 23% of the votes respectively, “cash bonuses” and “pay raises” were the top choices. The rest of the results were as follows:

  • Paid days off/shortened holiday hours – 16%
  • A combination of bonuses, extra days off, tangible gifts, etc. – 15%
  • Gift cards – 6%
  • Holiday parties – 6%
  • Tangible gift items (items other than cash/gift cards) – 1%

A great way to think about the importance of showing appreciation is an investment in your employees and a safeguard against turnover. From improved morale to increased loyalty, even the simplest gesture of thanks can go a long way toward building a stronger, more productive workforce.
