Our emcee for today, motivational speaker Christine Cashen, is opening the event!
You might remember her as a keynote speaker from the 2014 Refresh Leadership Live Simulcast. We liked her so much, we had to have her back! Learn more about Christine.

  • Collectively, Express offices in the U.S., Canada, and South Africa put more than 500,000 people to work, and assisted more than 60,000 clients with their staffing and HR needs in 2015!
  • Express is on a long-term mission to put a million people to work annually.

Express founder and CEO, Bob Funk takes the stage to share a welcome message.

Our first keynote speaker, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, is taking the stage. Here’s some info on his background and experience.

  • “You can ask a person one question and instantly determine their level of belief: Do you want to bet on it?”
  • “Never make the coaching process about yourself. Make it about the great people you work with and how proud you are of them.”
  • “Tell yourself: Leadership is not about me. Leadership is about them.”
  • “Stop asking for input – then expressing your opinion. It sounds like defensiveness, denial, rationalization, or making excuses. Fight that urge to make excuses, and just listen.”
  • “Why should I be trusted to control anything else if I cannot even control myself?” – Frances Hesselbein
  • “The key to making change last is you have to follow up and stick with it.”
  • “Business advice: Life is short, have fun. Do whatever you can do to help people. And, go for it.”

Shaq is up next! Here’s some info on his background and experience.

  • “The true definition of a great team player is one who makes his teammates around him better.”
  • “When I was young, my punishment was to read books and read dictionaries, and I was such a dreamer as a youngster it helped me become who I am today.”
  • Shaq’s advice to young, up and coming athletes: “It’s not about making money … it’s about keeping it.”
  • “My mother is my favorite person and I never want to let her down. When I was a ‘medium-level’ juvenile delinquent, she was the only one who believed in me.”
  • On keeping his brand relevant: “The brand that was has to relinquish itself to the brand that is.”
  • Shaq’s Twitter strategy breakdown: ”60% to make you laugh. 30% to inspire you. And 10% to let you know what new product I’m involved with.”

And finally – Kaplan Mobray will bring us home. Here’s some info on his background and experience.

  • “Leadership is not about the title or the role you have, it’s about those daily choices you make every single day to drive value.”
  • “Leadership is a choice.”
  • “Leaders don’t wait to see what happens, they have a preview of what will happen.”
  • “Never plan strategy without planning celebration. When people know what they’re about to celebrate, why they’re working so hard for you, it charges them to do great work.”
  • “Your people should know the impact of their efforts.”
  • “The more broad the perspective that you allow happen as a leader, the richer the results.”
  • “Have a system that allows feedback to be a part of how you lead. Feedback should never be an HR process that happens once a year. Feedback should never be something that is only when there is a situation. Great leaders embed feedback in how they lead.”
  • “The two most powerful words a leader can say: Thank you.”
