The Next Big Thing

An Inspirational Article by Motivational Speaker and President of the Narrative Television Network, Jim Stovall.

We’ve all seen super-successful people who always seem to be in the right place at the right time. Through my work in movies, television, books, and arena events, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with a number of these high-profile individuals who are at the very top of their professions. As you peel back the layers of their success, it becomes apparent that it’s not an accident or a random occurrence that successful people are in the right place at the right time. Planning, preparation, knowledge, and a willingness to pull the trigger can put you on the fast track just as the door of opportunity is opening.

Arguably, Wayne Gretzky was probably the greatest hockey player of all time. His opponents throughout his career continually lamented the fact that the puck always seemed to go right to Wayne Gretzky. When asked about it, the superstar explained, “I never skate to where the puck is.  I skate to where it’s going to be.”

One of the most fascinating things I have discovered in my reading about astronomy and space travel is the fact that stars and planets are not where they appear to be. If you pick out a particularly bright star in the night sky, you can point directly at it and show people where it appears to be located; but if you were calculating a hypothetical journey in a spacecraft to your distant star, you would have to consider the fact that light travels at 186,000 miles per second. Here on earth, the speed of light is virtually instantaneous, but when you’re observing a star that is located deep in outer space, you have to be aware of the fact that the light image you’re looking at in the night sky as you observe that star has been traveling many hundreds or even thousands of years. So, the star you’re looking at could actually be located in the opposite direction, or it could have burned out while dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

We have amazing access to information today. You can get immediate details about the latest trends around the world, but you have to remember, those trends are already occurring, and if you try to leap on the bandwagon, you will be chasing the crowd into the future. Following the crowd is never a productive course or method to succeed.  You must, instead, look at all the information and trends you can and then ask yourself the critical questions: Where is this all going? What does this mean to me? and Could this be part of my success and destiny?

If you can master all the information around you, practice patience and judgment, then act when circumstances dictate, you will find yourself in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing, and everyone will look at you and talk about how lucky you are.

As you go through your day today, don’t respond to change. Create change.

Today’s the day!
