The Results Are In: Business Performance Predictions Optimistic for 2022

In December, we polled our readers about their business performance predictions for the new year, and after two years of ups and downs, the results show an overall optimistic outlook for 2022.

The top response was “moderate growth” with 61% of the votes followed by “growth will be flat” in second with 18%, and “exponential growth” in third with 15%. Only 6% of respondents said they expect to see “a decrease in business performance” for the coming year.

With 76% of businesses expecting some form of growth in 2022, leaders look to push past the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and begin a new chapter.

Additionally, according to the results of Express Employment Professionals’ first quarter 2022 Job Insights survey, U.S. hiring decision-makers are more positive about the future of the workforce, with the most common feelings attributed to hiring in 2022 being optimistic (44%), hopeful (43%), and confident (43%). This sentiment is shown as their plans to expand their employee count increased from 50% in the second half of 2021 to 60% in the first half of 2022, whereas those who plan to decrease their workforce dropped from 13% to 4%.

In Canada, hiring managers expect similar results, with the most common feelings attributed to hiring in 2022 being optimistic (32%), hopeful (30%), and confident (26%). This sentiment is shown as their plans to expand their employee count increased from 31% in the second half of 2021 to 43% in the first half of 2022, whereas those who plan to decrease their workforce dropped from 13% to 7%.
