This Week’s Bad Employee: Oscar the Grouch

grouchFor someone who works with the cuddliest characters on earth, in a sunny neighborhood everyone wants directions to, Oscar the Grouch is without a doubt the grumpiest character on Sesame Street. Sure Ernie’s laugh is annoying and the Count’s incessant counting is obnoxious, but Oscar’s own grumpy attitude is a bad habit he needs to break.

His stubborn refusal to embrace the cheerful culture and sunny outlook of his cute co-workers, even after 41 years together, makes him the bad employee of the week. True to Jim Henson’s inspiration – an angry waiter Henson once encountered – and his name, Oscar is a grouch about everyone and everything. And to top it all off, he’s always talking trash. His stinky attitude could bring a cloud to even the happiest environments.

While the characters of Sesame Street may seem immune to Oscar’s grouchy nature, in the real world, employees’ attitudes can be contagious. And a bad one can spread like wild fire. If you have a grouch in your office, make sure they aren’t spreading their pessimistic outlook to your team. You can’t make everyone happy all the time, but keeping your employees engaged and inspired is a great way to protect your staff from bad attitudes and trash talk.
