Five Things to Do This Month: July 2012

We’re officially halfway through 2012! Are you on track to meet your business goals? Start off the second half of the year on the right foot. Here are five things to do in the month of July!

Canada Day (July 1)/Independence Day (July 4)
July is a great month for freedom. Canada celebrates the anniversary of the enactment of the Constitution Act of 1867 on July 1, and the U.S. celebrates the passage of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 on July 4. In both countries, July is the perfect time to take a break from work, fire up the grill, and enjoy a little office celebration!

Beat the Heat
It’s officially summer, and for much of the country, it has come barging in with record temps. If you have employees who spend their days working outdoors, now is a good time to review some safety tips for beating the summer heat. From hydration to clothing, there are a wide variety of precautions that can be taken to help ensure your people stay safe. Check out the U.S. Department of Labor website for more information about preventing heat-related illnesses and injuries.

Halftime
With the first six months of 2012 in the books, now is the time to review your progress to be sure you’re on track to meet your goals for the year. Take some time in the next few weeks to rally your troops and discuss the work you’ve done so far, what you have left to accomplish, and how to ensure you are successful.

National Ice Cream Day (July 15)
Sunday, July 15 is National Ice Cream Day, but just because it falls on the weekend, doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate. Why not treat your employees with a few scoops of morale-boosting sweetness on Friday, July 13. In addition to distracting your more superstitious workers from that infamous day, it’s always a good idea to give your team a quick break from their busy week.

Summer Olympics Begin (July 27)
July 27 marks the official opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Get into the Olympic spirit with your employees and host your own office Olympics. You can compete in events like desk chair sprints, wastebasket hurdles, and coffee mug shot put (actually, that last one is a bad idea). It’s a great way to build camaraderie among co-workers and encourage teamwork in the workplace.

Canadians do not celebrate the “passing” of the British North America Act. (The BNA Act was renamed in the Constitution Act 1867 in 1982). Canadians celbrate Canada Day on July 1st which is the anniversary of the Constitution Act 1867 coming “into effect” which established the “Dominion of Canada” between four provinces.

Thank you for the clarification! And, I apologize for the misunderstanding.
