5 Things to Do This Month: September 2012

The summer months are winding down and it’s time to welcome the cooler autumn temperatures. Can you believe we’re already closing in on the home stretch of 2012? Here are five things to do during the month of September.

Fight Procrastination Day (Sept. 6)
We can talk more about this one later.

Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept. 19)
Created in 1995 in Albany, Oregon, International Talk Like a Pirate Day is set aside as the day to dust off that old high seas lingo and incorporate words like “Ahoy, matey!” and “walk the plank” into everyday conversation. And while it may not be appropriate for all business transactions, celebrating this day in the office is a fun way to bring your team together and have a few morale-boosting laughs.

National Staffing Employee Week (Sept. 10-16 U.S. Only)
The American Staffing Association’s National Staffing Employee week honors the nearly 2.8 million people employed by staffing companies each business day. If you have employees in your company through a staffing firm like Express, be sure to stop by and thank them for their hard work and dedication.

First Day of Fall (Sept. 22)
The triple-digit heat has finally broken for most places across North America, and it’s not a moment too soon! Ring in the fall months with an outdoor teambuilding event or maybe an office tailgate party to help usher in the college football season. The camaraderie will help build relationships and give your workforce a quick break from the grueling pace of business over the previous months.

Prepare for Seasonal Hiring
The fourth quarter is closing in and for many businesses that means seasonal upswings. It’s never too early to start planning for upcoming increases in business volume, so take some time to look back at previous years’ fourth quarter activity and start planning accordingly. Whether it means hiring a few new employees or making adjustments to other projects, an early start can help ensure you stay productive.
