The Results Are In: How Does Your Company Promote Employee Health and Wellness

RL04-16-15In March, we asked our readers how their companies promote Employee Health and Wellness, and more than 400 of you weighed in. Coming in first, 26.59% said “We don’t have any initiatives in place to promote health and wellness,” followed by “We have a gym or offer discounts for outside gym memberships” at 20 %, while “We offer discounts on health insurance for people who participate in wellness programs” came in third with 16.24% of the votes.

The rest of the results were as follows:

  • We have a cafeteria or vending machines that offer healthy meals and snacks – 11.76%
  • We encourage our employees to take plenty of breaks from their desks to stretch and walk around – 10.35%
  • We have after-work sports clubs or exercise classes for our employees – 4.94%

Another 10.12% of respondents chose the “Other” option and submitted their company’s specific health program initiatives, including:

  • We have adjustable desks so employees can stand
  • Health fairs, flu shots, EAP, group insurance
  • Healthy life postings, and webinars
  • Provide monthly e-newsletters on a health topic
  • Give staff time to work out, encourage healthy lifestyles
  • Workshops on well-being to get employees’ suggestions; wellness committee

    You are right; it is important to promote workplace wellness in companies as it helps them to focus & reduces stress. Without the right focus on healthy living, one could be hindering his/her company’s success.

    We are lucky to have been given a small Wellness Grant. We use it to stock healthy snacks like carrots and apples in the lunch room for Staff.
